Trying hard now, won't be long now! Had a really productive lesson on Saturday. We stayed in the pattern and did 7 landings. A few times, I could feel confidence slipping away, but we stuck with it and I did take-off, pattern and landing #7 on my own. My instructor, said he was "just a bag of sand" that I did it all on my own. So, sometime soon, when I'm ready, it will be time to solo!
The weather was warm for January and the winds were light at first, NW at about 5. It was a Little windier towards the end of the lesson as the first vague signs of a winter storm were approaching. We are supposed to get the worst winter storm since 1982 here in the St. Louis metro area this week, but I will believe it when I see it. But, it looks like with a little luck, we'll have some good flying weather this coming. weekend.
I am feeling increasingly confident about conquering my Everest. I am working through a lot of psychological barriers as well, which is to be expected. If you are really climbing "your Everest", it will be fraught with all sorts of brick walls, more on my brick walls in future entries. But as the late Randy Pausch put it: The brick walls are there for a reason. The brick walls are not there to keep us out; the brick walls are there to give us a chance to show how badly we want something. The brick walls are there to stop the people who don't want it badly enough. They are there to stop the other people!
Congratulations, Alan! I didn't know flying was your "Everest". I'm not sure I know what my "Everest" is. Gives me something to think about. I'm looking forward to hearing more about your brick walls. Patt
